This Week's Thought: "A trauma that is unspoken is a trauma that is unhealed. Recovery begins with words; I am hurting, I need help."

Resolving Trauma Through the Body & Mind: Trauma is an injury to the entire system. It can be caused by a single event, or repetitive experiences that leave us feeling overwhelmed, powerless, confused and dis-regulated.
The seeds of trauma begin with a boundary breach. It's often the result of something happening in a sudden and unexpected way, often described as too much and too fast. In response to such an overwhelming event, the body wisely mobilizes an immense amount of energy to help deal with the threat of the event. This physical response of arousal is the universal survival response...
The Neurobiology of Traumatic Memory: The brain develops hierarchically from the bottom up and the inside out. The lowest brain centers hold our most primitive survival reactions and the upper brain centers serve a regulating and reflective purpose.
The lowest brain centers, sometimes referred to as the reptilian brain, are involved with activating defensive stress reactions. These centers reflexively respond to fearful events and stimuli with a startle response, increased heart rate, quickened breath, and increased muscle tension.
